1.Our Best Recipe (Borax and Washing Soda)
This recipe is no doubt one of the best and most suited recipes but still you should know that it depends upon different conditions of your water hardness or softness, the temperature of your dishwasher and the model of your dishwasher, etc to find a recipe that will suit it.
You can try this recipe by preparing a small quantity at the start and if it does best for you then it is lucky for you and you can make and use it whenever you wish.
Here the recipe:
- 1x Citric acid
- 2x washing soda
- 2x Borax
- 1x Salt
- You can also add any oil for scent
Preparation
Prepare it very easily. Mix all these ingredients and store them in any tight container. Everything is ready to be used now.
Use
Every time you start washing dishes add 1 tablespoon of this detergent in the detergent tray of your dishwasher and then add few drops of the liquid dishwasher detergent in it.
The liquid detergent will increase efficiency and make this technique more working for you.
As a rinse agent, you can add white vinegar also.
2.Detergent Recipe With Borax

- 1x Borax
- 1x washing Soda
- 1/2x kosher salt
- 5 packs of unsweetened lemonade mix
Preparation
Mix all these 4 ingredients and store then in a tight container. It is now ready to be used.
Use
You can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of it in the detergent tray of the dishwasher and let it work for you.

3.Without Borax Recipe
If you do not want to use Borax for any reason, then you can use another effective recipe for your dishwasher. Here it is:
- An empty jug of plastic about one gallon
- 2 tablespoons of liquid dishwashing soap
- 4 tablespoons of baking powder
- 1-gallon water
Preparation
Pour liquid soap and baking powder in the jug and fill the rest of the jug by water. It will be about one gallon totally.
Close the jug and shake it well to mix completely. Your detergent is prepared and ready to be used right now.
Use
Use 1 to 2 tablespoons per cycle or adjust it according to your needs.
4.Detergent Recipe With Citric Acid

5.Detergent Recipe Without Citric Acid
If you do not like citric acid or if it is unavailable momentary then you can make a recipe that does not include citric acid.
It may work for you but some people have found a problem in this recipe that white films appear on the plastic plates.
Here is the recipe:
- 1x Borax
- 1x Washing Soda
- 1/2x sea salt (Optional)
- About 25 to 30 drops of lemon essential oil (optional)
- Castile soap, finely grated (optional)
Preparation
Mix all the above detergents and keep in a jar at a safe place.
Use
Insert it in your dishwasher according to the number of dishes. Change the quantity and find the best one yourself depending upon your water.
6.Dishwasher Detergent with Baking Soda
Using this recipe for making detergent at home, you can make dry powder detergent or tabs. It is up to your choice.
Depending on what you like the best, you can make powder or tabs from the same ingredients just by omitting or adding water respectively.
Here the recipe:
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1 cup Washing Soda
- 1 cup Kosher Salt
- 3 packets of unsweetened lemon drink
- 1 cup of water
Firstly mix all the dry ingredients together and then now what you want to make powder or tabs.
If you want to make powder mix all these things omitting water in a tight jar. Use one tablespoon at every cycle or adjust it according to your needs a bit more or little.
If you want to make tablets then add water and wait for two minutes until fizzing stops. Put this mixture in ice cube trays of your fridge and let it dry completely at a sunny place for 24 hours. Use 1 tab per cycle.
You should also use vinegar in your rinse dispenser for better results.
7.Without Baking Soda
If you have no baking soda or if you do not want to use it, you can prepare a dishwasher detergent at home without baking soda easily.
